btcprox and Original Fire Music (2020 Top 10 Independent Electronic Music Producers Singapore)

The artist featured in the 6th in our series of Top 10 Independent Electronic Music Productions from Singapore-based artists in 2020 (more details of this series below) has two very different musical projects: btcprox and Original Fire Music.

Why do you have two different musical projects?

[btcprox] is mostly chill beats, though I do like to dabble.
[Original Fire] is not really meant to be genre specific, but the latest release sits in the cyberpunk/synthwave territory

What gear did you use to make this?

  •  Ableton Live 10 Suite
  • Korg Microkey 61
  • Several VSTs from Spitfire Audio LABS
  • Surge synthesizer

What inspired you to make this music?

[Monochrome] After having quite a number of collab works or remixes in the past two years, I thought it's long due for some solo stuff again. Went with "Monochrome" because of my affinity with the black-&-white piano (as seen in the cover art), and tried to revisit the styles I did as a way to see how much I've grown in my music.

[Protocol Crimson] We want to release music under Original Fire Music that's free for people to use in their videos/livestreams (especially in light of the automatic takedowns due to detected copyrighted music). Since the Cyberpunk 2077 game was about to come out, we thought to put out an album inspired by cyberpunk tropes, so people could stream our music while playing the game when it released.

What keeps you making music this year?

Making music has been a form of catharsis, more so than ever in this stressful time. And seeing many creators (including musicians) persevere through this tumultuous period has been inspiring too.
Being part of this new Original Fire Music project is also a way to see how much I can push myself creatively, in terms of productivity and style.

About this blog series

This year, despite (or because?) all of the restrictions to our music scene, Singapore-based electronic musicians produced a LOT of interesting electronic music. This blog series is our non-scientific attempt to showcase some of our favourites from 2020. This list is not exhaustive and we reserve the right to add to it any time we like!
