Splinter is a largely ambient piece that transitions into a dance track in its last leg, written with the concept of journeying through a foreign land in mind.

What inspired you to make this track?
My love for ambient music, modular synthesis, and the combination of the two was what lead to the origination of Splinter. The track quickly took on a rather alien sound which resonated with me especially in these strange times. To me, the track speaks of travelling through an unfamiliar land - some sort of wilderness.
What keeps you making music through this tough year?
It is especially during these tough times that music has become more important to me than ever as a way that we connect by communicating and expressing our ideas, feelings, concepts, stories and so on. Seeing so many artists continuing to pursue and hone their craft in the face of all that’s happened this year has certainly been a huge inspiration to me (some of my favourite music in recent times were released this year!).
Inspiring me even more so are the artists that I know personally, which are all my fellow friends at EML. Being able to grow music-production-wise with them has been a true privilege, and their consistent support has been a great source of motivation for me amongst support from other friends and family as well.
About this blog series
This year, despite (or because?) all of the restrictions to our music scene, Singapore-based electronic musicians produced a LOT of interesting electronic music. This blog series is our non-scientific attempt to showcase some of our favourites from 2020. This list is not exhaustive and we reserve the right to add to it any time we like!
