NUS EML offers you 2 tracks to choose from - Music Production and Live Performance. Both tracks will have sessions at the same time in different rooms. You can move between tracks but we highly recommend you stick to one so that you can really learn. We offer 2 tracks because
- Different Creative Starting Points: Some members may prefer to just jam out and play music (even without formal training) instead of composing from scratch, whereas others want to fully write and produce a track before thinking about live performance.
- Studio vs. Stage Focus: It allows members to choose their preferred environment—whether they want to focus on crafting polished tracks in a digital studio (Production) or executing music live in front of an audience (Performance)
. - Bridging Theory to Action: It connects the structural building blocks of songwriting directly to hands-on hardware, instrument tweaking, and real-time improvisation
. - Ensemble Collaboration: It equips members with the skills required to sync up, live jam, and play together smoothly as an electronic ensemble
Here is what you will learn in each Track:
- Track A: Electronic Music Production
- This track is centered on composition, arrangement, sound design, and studio mixing.
- You'll learn to how to use Ableton Live as a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), understand song components like beats, loops, and layers, essential song structures, and sound design.
- Track B: Electronic Music Performance
- This track is centered on playing electronic music instruments live, learning improvisation, controllerism, and playing in a group.
- You'll learn how to play grid controllers (Launchpad or Push), launching clips, playing audio effects, and playing synthesizers live.
