The best way to make a copy of your Ableton Live Project File, e.g. if you want to share it with others for collaboration, is to Pack it with Ableton. Sharing the .als file alone is not enough, because you will miss out any samples, Simpler files, Drum Rack files etc which are part of your Project. This video shows you how to use Ableton Live's Packing function to contain all of your tracks, samples, Simpler files, Drum Rack files etc into one .alp file which can be transferred to others.
