Since the original post in 2009, the technology to play drums without drum pads (using actual drums or even objects around you as drum triggers) has changed - the ProTrig VST is no longer available and the company website for Centipeak http://www.centipeak.com is no longer availablee. But there are more current solutions.
For example watch this tutorial on using KT Drums Trigger VST with Ableton Live:
Even though Ableton Live 10 (and soon 11) works only with x64 plugins and KTDrumsTrigger is 32bit, you can use JBridge to run KTDrums Trigger inside Ableton Live 10 (and then 11). This video shows how:
Happy drum triggering!

drum kits

Here's an interesting video of a guy playing drums without drums:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4T-cTz0xA4
The guy was using cigarette boxes and microphones set up close to the
boxes. All these microphones were then fed into a plugin called ProTrig
which converted audio signal into MIDI trigger which in turn fed a drum
plugin (here he used EZDrummer). The result was very responsive, and
kinda cool. Check it out!
Cheers,
